On The Outside

Breed | Himalayan/Savannah X Snowshoe/Maine Coon/Norwegian Forest Cat mix

Size | Because of the fact that he was very sickly as a young kitten, being the runt of the litter, Zero is a little below average in size with both height and muscles, a skinny, weak frame hidden beneath his fur. However, since joining the exiles, his ragged fur has filled out and his muscles have grown stronger and thicker. Although he is still small and slender, for the first time ever, his winter coat is thick and his bones cannot be felt beneath his skin.

Appearance |  Zero resembles his father in appearance, a lot more noticeably than his mother, and if one was acquaintance with Kokkinos, they might be able to guess that he is a kitten of the silver earth. The whole of his body consists of shades of brown and white. Most of the action is going on across his head, where a mixture of his mother's and father's markings has given the tom a multi coloured face, layers with hues of brown. A dark patch is splattered across one eye, and his ears are tainted a dark cocoa, matching his father's. His neck and chest is a snowy white, and the pale colour carries on along his belly until it reaches the base of his tail, where the appendage is a much darker shade. His body is broken, speckled with tiny, darker spots, and three stripes reach down from his shoulder, almost like a Air Tribe tattoo. His limbs are white, with brown bars on his front legs, and splatters of colour touch the fur above his toes on his hind legs.

Scars | Four claw marks stretch across his face, trailing from his eyes, across his muzzle to his chin. After being ravaged by infection, they have swollen to huge gashes and are healing much more slowly than a normal scratch will

Scent | The earth after a rainstorm

Items | A starstone pierced through his ear, used to give him sight

On The Inside

Loyal | Intelligent | Strong willed | Reserved | Hostile | Temperamental | Intolerant

[ :bulletgreen: ] Loyal | Although he struggles to truly get close to individual cats, to the Enlightened, he is devoted. Zero doesn't believe in the leader having the last word and ultimate choice like in the Tribes, and prefers to act based on the majority view of his cats, which is why he led them to the Tribes despite being against the idea himself. He puts the exiles before himself, and despite his frosty exterior, he clearly cares for those under his care. Zero will do everything possible to protect the Enlightened because to him, they are his family, even if it means he has to kill, or give up his own life.

[ :bulletgreen: ] Intelligent | Zero is an extremely intelligent cat. His own detachment to others had helped him to understand's how cats work through careful analysis of their motives and relationships with others. Zero can easily predict how others will react, and exactly what changes are needed to cause different outcomes. He is calculated and carefully assesses every part of a situation when making a decision, and can do this in a few seconds if it's needed. He prefers careful planning to impulsiveness, and makes certain that the Enlightened are therefore prepared for every possible threat. Zero becomes noticeably miserable if his mind becomes stagnant and there is nothing to stimulate it and this is one of the reasons why he was able to slip into the leader role so easily. Focusing his energy and attention on others helps to keep his thoughts away from himself. He enjoys puzzles and figuring out solutions to problems as it gives him the feeling of control over his life.

[ :bulletgreen: ] Strong willed | Ultimately, Zero doesn't let others influence his decisions, and believes what he wants to believe. Despite everything he's gone through, his spirit is strong, and survives.  He is determined, and doesn't allow himself to be halted by obstacles or problems in his way. It is nearly impossible to convince him otherwise when he sets his mind on something, and in some cases, the only way of stopping him would be by physical force. Zero instinctively rebels against authority, and struggled with following rules and showing respect to higher ranking cats when he lived in the Tribes. No matter what, he will never betray who he is, or what he truly believes in, even if he must die for it.

[ :bulletyellow: ] Reserved | Zero is an extremely private cat, and does not readily give out information about himself, especially his younger days as a kit. It takes a lot of dedication and patience to even get to know him and any cat who wishes to befriend him will first have to get through his aloofness and sometimes even rejection. Zero is a fiercely independent feline, and feels much safer keeping himself withdrawn. If no one is close to him, then surely they can't hurt him either?

[ :bulletred: ] Hostile | Although his time with the exiles has helped to soften him, Zero remains mostly hostile to cats he is unfamiliar with. Because of the constant bullying of him from his siblings from a young age, Zero genuinely believes that most cats only want to cause him harm, so he instantly puts up walls to protect himself. Because of this, it is difficult to grow close to him, and most of the time, cats are put off by his hostility and don't want to get to know him anyway, which suits him just fine. His first reaction to anything is anger, so he can be aggressive from the very start. Much of the time, his aggressive behavior is a bluff, but he can, and will, turn violent if the situation calls for it.

[ :bulletred: ] Temperamental | Zero is an emotionally unstable cat and his mood can swing in an instant. The tom could be sitting calmly until a cat does something wrong, or gives him bad news, and his emotions can switch explosively in a heartbeat. Zero's temper can instantly flare up even at a single word, his mood changing instantly to something much more intense. His emotions are volatile, and often cats need to catch him at a 'good' mood if they need him for something. Because of how closed off he is, it is difficult to judge his mood, and even he himself sometimes doesn't know what he's feeling, as Zero often tumbles through different emotions throughout the day. It is exhausting not only for the cats around him, but for himself. However, since becoming leader, Zero has tried his best to reign in his unpredictable emotions, and cats are now in a lot less risk at getting claws in their face as a response. So far, he has never hurt another Enlightened cat solely based on an erupted emotional response, as is doing well to stay calm. Tribe cats however, are a different matter.

[ :bulletred: ] Intolerant | Zero is not keen on cats who disagree with his views, and makes it well known in his reaction to arguments. Although he won't go against the majority view of the Enlightened, such as coming to the Tribe lands in the first place, he refuses to house cats who are against the general beliefs and traditions of the Enlightened and takes any kind of betrayal very seriously, with the harshest of punishments. Zero struggles with empathy, and therefore struggles to see someone else's point of view when it is different from his own, even though sometimes he does try to. Instead, he feels threatened and is stubbornly resistance to changing his beliefs.

Extra Information

Trivia |

• Shaped by severe bullying and abuse from two of his littermates during his kithood, many of his behaviours now are a result of his kithood.
● Without his new starstone, Zero is completely blind, a trait that has been passed down from his father's side. The power of his starstone is acuity, which heightens the senses, including his vision. This means his ear is his point of weakness - If it is ripped off he will loose his sight and become pretty much defenseless
• Stamps his paw on the ground to get a cat's attention when he wants them to listen to him, a habit carried all the way from his kithood
• Zero was a very sickly kit during the first moon of his life, and was the runt of the litter, making him weak and partial to illness
• His fur length changes depending on the season; in the winter, he grows long, fluffy fur, especially around his neck, but during the spring and summer, he looses a considerable amount of fur, up to the point of sometimes being patchy
• Zero enjoy solitude, and often slips away to spend time alone. Sometimes he feels overwhelmed by the amount of cats and noise in the camp
• Zero is extremely good at bluff and can make himself appear a lot more dangerous and fearsome than he actually is just through his words
• Despite blocking other cats out to for fear is being hurt, Zero is incredibly lonely and at this point, probably suffers more emotionally and mentally from isolation than he would from being hurt by another

History

Original Histroy
Kithood

"Hasn't he opened his eyes yet?"

Dillion turned away from the sound of his sibling's voice, burrowing deeper into his mothers soft belly fur. His cheeks were flushed and burning, and his energy was sapped completely; not that that was any change. He didn't hear his mother's response, too intent on nuzzling Eileen's stomach as he searched for a teat. It took all his strength to latch onto one and start suckling, his paws kneading her fur weakly.
I'll open them when I'm ready.

His siblings were romping and tumbling nearby, their laughs and battlecries loud against the silence of the den. Dillion's ears twitched, before he turned and struggled closer to his mother. Suddenly, he tumbled to one side as her tongue drew across his shoulder, squeaking in indignation as he stumbled, his sickly body unable to bear the weight of it. Heaving himself back to his paws, Dillion staggered the rest of the way, before collapsing heavily at his mothers's stomach. He was exhausted just from that, and he quickly slipped into sleep as he nestled closer to her.

-

"... Everything is the same." Dillion raised his head and gaze at his mother, or at least, where he imagined her to be. His siblings were playfighting somewhere again, and Dillion was, like always, left alone with Eileen. Confusion made him irritable. "Everything is still dark. He blinked his eyes a few times, just to make sure they were actually open, before tilting his head back towards the queen, his tiny tail lashing.

The mother blinked her eyes open, she had allowed the kits to go out and play with the other kittens as she lied protectively around her own sickly kit. Raising a brow as he stopped feeding suddenly she raised her head at his statement and stared at him for a few moments. Pride surged through her as she realized his eyes had finally opened. Though... His eyes were an odd color yet she dismissed it as having gotten them from his mother. Moving forward she wrapped a paw over him to keep him from tumbling over when she groomed him. "It's the den's lighting." She dismissed it quickly, squinting her eyes at the own darkness of the den. "What do you see? Maybe we should go outside sweetheart and see if that's any better?"

Dillion puffed out his fur as his mother started to groom him, annoyed at the treatment yet grateful at the same time. He appreciated her love and affection, no matter how much he'd deny it. Although, he couldn't help but let out a huff at her suggestion. He didn't have the strength to make it outside, and beside, he'd much rather snuggle at his mother's side anyway. Still gazing up at her, he stomped his tiny paw on the ground to get her attention, desperate for her to understand. He was still swamped in utter darkness, and Dillion
knew that that wasn't right. "I see nothing." He squeaked up at her, his voice a soft mewl and faint from the lack of use. "I see nothing."

-

As a kitten and the runt of the litter, Dillion was sickly for the first month of his life. He was mostly too weak to play, and his siblings, Tari and Levian would participate in bullying him at any chance they got, including death threats and mocking insults, as well as the occasional swipe. They would chase him away when he tried to join in, and so the kit often spent most of his time hiding in the nursery or crouched in the shadows of the camp where he couldn't be seen. Because of this, Dillion grew up to become a hostile, closed off cat, expecting other cats to do the same and so by withdrawing himself, not giving them a chance to hurt him.  Very few cats managed to break through his barrier, and he experienced death at an early age, when his 'friend' Zendiwandered off and froze to death. Zero also met Kyle, and the tom was impressed by the tiny kit's bravery and fire. They became friends.

When he reached his sixth moon, the tom was given the name Zero and was placed into Light Tribe. The newly named Zero was disgusted at this choice; it made him feel even more useless and defenseless. He had wanted to learn how to fight to prove he could finally defend himself from his siblings, or any other cat that wanted to hurt him, but instead he spent his time learning the different types of injuries and how to treat. Zero was placed with Ktori in the hope the calm and steady tom would be able to smooth down Zero's fiery and sometimes violent temper. But all of these only served to kindle his resentment further, and in the end, Zero spent most of his time as an apprentice carrying out punishment tasks for his behaviour. Void Tribe rose during the early days of his apprenticeship, and Kyle, the new Void Tribe deputy, invited Zero to join the Tribe. However, despite his misery in Light Tribe, Zero refused, not wanting another cat to decide what happens to him again.

Towards the end of his apprentice days, Zero met Quesnel and surprisingly, a close friendship formed between the two of them. A shaky friendship also grew between him and Stevie.

After learning it was possible to ask the new Spirits to change Tribes, Zero decided it was time to leave Light Tribe and was accepted into Shadow Tribe, despite Light Tribe's warning about his unstable temperament.

When the starstone fell to the Tribes, Zero took no notice, unimpressed by it. But one day, Quesnel appeared with a starstone, one that amplified all senses to their fullest. Zero was unconvinced, but after persuasion from his friend, he reached out and took the starstone. Instantly, colours and shapes flooded his vision for the very first time. Quesnel had given him the gift of sight. Both amazed and a little apprehensive, it took Zero almost a moon to accustom to sight, having to teach himself colours and shapes as well as understanding perception and balance.

Soon after this, Quesnel suddenly bid him farewell and his only remaining friend left the Tribes. Zero was a lot more wounded than he'd ever admit by this, but still he tried his best to focus on his duties in his new Tribe. Although it never truly felt like home, Zero was a lot happier in Shadow Tribe than anywhere else. Although he didn't make any friends, he was separated from any of his family members potentially hurting him, and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Tribe.

A couple of moons later, the famine hit. Tensions rose between Tribes as prey grew scarce and every cat knew that the Tribes were on the verge of war if someone made the wrong move. After some cats stole from Shadow Tribe's prey store, Zero was determined to protect the Tribe, and began to patrol the borders with ferocity. During his very last patrol, he came across a trespassing cat; his detested sister, Eponine. Zero warned her to leave, but ignoring his words, she instead attacked him. A passing patrol led by Cenek heard the screeches and barreled through the undergrowth just in time to intervene before one of them killed the other. Instantly, Eponine played for her own defense, claiming that Zero had attacked one of her kits and she was forced to fight to save them. In terror, her kit had ran off and she desperately had to leave to try and find them. These were lies, but with tensions so high amongst the Tribes, as well as the warnings Light Tribe had given Cenek about Zero, the Shadow Tribe leader was furious and was not prepared to listen to Zero's distraught explanation. The tom was lead back to Shadow Tribe and promptly exiled for risking Shadow Tribe's safety at a time of such volatility.

Exile History :new:
Zero ran for weeks, not eating and barely drinking. His memories of early exile are blurred. He had lost all hope and meaning to his life, and didn't bother trying to look after himself. Eventually, his legs gave out beneath him and he collapsed from exhaustion. The exile claw marks were bubbled into an ugly infection that covered most of his face and had sapped most of his strength. He knew that he was dying, and he gave in to it, closing his eyes and drifting away.

Zero awoke in a den. Terrified, he tried to flee, but he could barely even lift his head from enervation. Willow (NPC) was in the den when he awoke, and tried her best to soothe him. He discovered that he was in a crudely made healer's den, and he had been carried there when some members of the Enlightened had discovered his body. The tom was hostile to the whole situation and wanted to leave immediately, but he didn't have the strength. Over the next few days, Zero slowly began to regain his strength, and now that he was in the healer's care, the infection on his face started to fade. The leader of the Enlightened at the time, Birch, visited Zero several times during this time. Zero was instantly irritated at the leader's constant jolly nature and encouragement, but slowly began to warm to him as time passed.

When he was able to move about, Willow suggested that he spend some time in their camp so that he could catch some sunlight and meet the others. He was shocked to hear that many cats were excited to see him, and she consequently had to explain the Enlightened's past, that many of the members were once Tribe members who were exiled during Alriyel's reign. Feeling a little more encouraged, Zero peered out of the den, but felt too nervous to actually go outside. The next day though, he tried again, when many of the cats were out hunting or exploring. He sat at the entrance to the healer's den, enjoying the feeling of the weak winter sun warming his fur and the quietness of the camp. That didn't last long though. Having escaped from their mothers, a group of kits discovered him, and instantly rushed over to meet him. At first, Zero was overwhelmed by their eager questions, but slowly, he fell into storytelling to answer their questions. At first it was about himself, but soon the questions moved onto Tribe life. As the sun set, more cats began to gather, until much of the camp was filled with felines listening to the tales about the Tribes. The spell was finally broken when the queens announced that it was time to sleep for their kits, and Zero realised with shock that the sun was sinking beneath the horizon. Many of the cats came over to pass comments about how much they had enjoyed it, or how they were excited for him to continue tomorrow. For the first time in his life, Zero felt like he was appreciated, and wanted.

As the days passed, Zero was aware that he was now healthy enough to leave, like he had repeated proclaimed he would do as soon as he was able to. But instead he began making excuses to stay in the healer's den for longer, and spent most of his time talking with the exiles or joining them on hunts they invited him on. Eventually, Zero realised with pleasant surprised that he didn't want to. He was happy here, and he finally felt like he had found his home. Finally, he asked Birch if he could join as a full member, and he was accepted with ebullience from the other members.

Zero spent over a moon in the Enlightened in content, enjoying he strong family ties and relaxed lifestyle the cats led. But one day, just as he was settling down for the night, strange cats suddenly streamed into their camp, attacking them and destroying their dens. Zero tried his best to defend the camp, but many of the exiles had already flee or were crouching in submission. The ones that joined him eventually managed to drive out the cats, but not without some serious injuries. Much of the camp had been devastated, and some queens were calling desperately for their kits that got lost in the attack. Shocked, Zero demanded to know who they were, and why they hadn't defended themselves. Birch explained to them that they were a group of cats who were looking to take the Enlightened's territory off them and although their numbers were smaller, many of the Enlightened's cats didn't know how to fight off dangerous rogues. These attacks had happened multiple times before, and cats had been killed previously. Zero was horrified, but as he was just a member, there wasn't much he could do.

Over the next few weeks, Zero helped the others to patch up the camp and repair the damage. But one day, a body was dragged into camp, following the mournful wails of the patrol. It was Birch, and he had been killed by the rogues. Distraught and furious, Zero stepped up, beginning to take charge and commanding the exiles on what to do next. But instantly, another cat challenged him. Bracken, Birch's son argued that they shouldn't listen to a Tribe cat who didn't understand their ways and that he didn't agree on Zero's aggressive approach to the problem. Cats began to step back, leaving a clear space around Bracken, and Zero realised that he would have to fight for leadership. Flinging himself at Bracken, the two collided in a screeching ball. Although the fight was violent and intense, it was quickly clear that Bracken had not trained in fighting, unlike Zero. Finally, Zero pinned him down, pressing his claws against the cat's throat, and Bracken was forced to give up, showing that he had by tapping a paw on the ground three times. Zero had won the leadership.

Instead of their traditional defensive tactics the Enlightened had been deploying, Zero changed it to offensive. He set up training classes, where every members was taught how to fight with skill and precision. Those who were natural fighters were picked to become mentors to others, and quickly, the Enlightened transformed into a terrifyingly strong group of fighters. Finally, they were ready. Not wanting to give the rogues another chance to catch them off guard, Zero led the strongest of cats straight to the rogue's camp. Charging in, the rogues were clearly outnumbered, and those who stayed behind to defend quickly learnt better. In a matter of minutes, the Enlightened had won the battle and drove out the rogues that had plagued them for so long. On their return, a celebration was throw, and those who had doubted Zero previously now came to fully accept him as leader. Zero reconciled with Bracken, and soon the two toms became close friends instead of enemies.

The spring and summer were peaceful and content. Many cats chose to join them, even former members of the rogue group, and all were warmly accepted. It was a good and easy period of time with plentiful food and little conflict. However, as autumn drew closer, the famine in the northern lands began to creep down. Patrols were coming back without prey, and cats were beginning to sleep without having any prey. Discontent grows, and many cats begin to talk about reclaiming their old lands in the Tribes. Many turned to Zero for this, as he had came from the Tribes and they wanted him to take them back there. Zero was reluctant. He had finally found happiness away from the Tribes, and he knew how many cats would be killed if they fought the Tribes. At first, he refused, but as the disquiet in the Enlightened grows stronger, he hesitantly decided that they would leave if they received a sign from their ancestors.

The famine only grew worse during the winter. Even expanding their huge territory didn't do much to provide extra food and by spring, the cats were skinny and weak. Still, Zero claimed they had not received a sign.

But one day, an early spring thunderstorm brought many lightening strikes. Their territory quickly caught fire, and a huge blaze swept through the land. The Enlightened were forced to evacuate camp, barely escaping with their lives. Only by crossing a wide river were they safe, and could do nothing but watch their home be destroyed as the inferno raged. After over a day of burning, the fire finally calmed to smolders, and the Enlightened could see what they had lost. Their whole territory was charred, the ground frosted with ash. It was inhospitable. It was the sign from their ancestors. It was time for them to leave.

It was a harsh journey, with the elders and queens feeling the strain hardest. Led by Zero, they crossed vast landscapes and struggled through volatile conditions. Zero was unhappy at the prospect of returning to the Tribes and coming into conflict with them. He knew that by now, the Enlighten's numbers were larger than the Tribes, but the Tribes were dangerous and they had their precious spirits always ready to step in. But he couldn't ignore the majority, and so he continued.

Eventually, they arrived at the outskirts of the Tribe lands. Zero knew the customs of the Tribes from his own time spent there, so he ordered a few exiles to infiltrate the territory and set up a rumour, so they could finally announce themselves at their artificial gathering.

[ Blue Green - Water | Kato | Outskirts of the Tribe’s Land ]

Pebbles clattered down the stone cold slopes as a cat moved about the ridges, their tumbling temporarily breaking the silence of the night. The noise was amplified by the lack of background noise, and the tom's shadowy figure paused on the ledge above, tense and watchful as his glowing emerald eyes scanned the rocks below. Claws scraped against rock as the undergrowth that bordered the slopes trembled, the feline prepared to leap into battle at the first sign of a predator. A shrew burst from the bushes, disturbing by the falling rocks, and the tom relaxed, before hopping down into the undergrowth and bounding through the shadows.

Kato's paws pounded the ground heavily as he sprinted, heading back towards Water Tribe territory. He had explored the outskirts in search of any sign of his brother, Finnick, but like always, there wasn't even a pebble out of place to single his arrival. Is he really coming? Kato swallowed down his doubt. Finnick had to come. His brother had promise. At least he could look forward to a cozy bed to sleep the day away. He was tired after -

Kato skidded to a stop as the scent of blood flooded his nostrils. Fresh. So wrapped up in his thoughts, the Water Triber hadn't even noticed until he was drowning in it, and he gagged as it poured through his nose and jaws. He had never really scented blood before, and he had never realised how overwhelming the grisly smell was until now. Raising his head, Kato forced himself to drink in the scent as he tried to decide where it was coming from. Maybe it was just a fox that had gotten in a fight with another. There! The scent was strongest just through those ferns. I really hope it is a fox. Kato grimaced as he reluctantly edged forward, terrified at what he might find. What if it's a cat? Fuck, don't let it be a cat. Taking a deep breath, Kato puffed out his chest as if to egg himself on, before shouldering through the fronds, his tail bristling with nerves.

A brown body lay sprawled on the ground, unmistakably that of a cats. A brown body with white patchs and fluffy fur. A brown body with a Light Tribe tattoo. Kato's stomach churned with dread and fear as he raced the last few steps, already knowing who it was. "Yvaine!" He choked out, horror making his whole body tremble. Moonbeams filtered through the leaves above their heads, illuminating the blood that was plastered to her fur and splattered on the ground, dyeing the leaves beneath her crimson. Frozen with shock, Kato's eyes swept over the scene as a gasp escaped his jaws. No ... Not Yvaine.

Finally released, Kato instantly dropped down to the ground and wrapped his arms around her limp body, holding her close to him. Blood tricked onto his fur, leaving smudged stains but he didn't care. "No." He whimpered, pressing his head close to hers. Who'd do something like this; rip her life away just like that? Why? Kato felt sick. This couldn't be happening. Both his mind and vision spun. He could barely think straight.

W-Was she ... Dead?

There was a terrible pause that seemed to last for seasons, and Kato was stiff with tension as he leaned close to her mouth, his breaths coming in short, uncontrolled gulps of air.

Relief coursed through him as he felt her breath on his cheek, faint, but still alive. Tears prickling the corners of his eyes, Kato slowly and gently place her back on the ground. She needed help and fast. There was nothing he could do, but he couldn't be the only cat out here. Plenty of cats he knew loved going to night walks, and that was just in Water Tribe. "Stay there." He whispered, determination flowing through his tired limbs, renewing his energy. There wasn't really wasn't any point in saying that to her, but a mixture of shock, fear and hope made his thoughts whirl. All he could focus on was finding someone, anyone.

Springing upwards, Kato bolted away, his paws a blur as he charged through the night, yowling for help.

Hello Ninja! Pardon me from asking, but seeing that Zero is now deceased, I was wondering if Mordecai could find and keep his starstone? Due to Mordecai's connection with Quesnel (aunt nephew relationship), I found the idea of Mordecai showing Quesnel Zero's starstone intriguing and I was wondering if you could make this interaction a reality! I completely understand if you decline my request, and I hope that you have a good day ^^
